Palma il Giovane, The Entombment of Christ

			Circa 1604

Church of San Giacomo dall'Orio, Venice

The woman fainting on the left is of course Jesus' mother Mary, clad in the usual red robe and blue mantle. Right of center two men prepare to lift Jesus into the sarcophagus on the right. The man on the right could be St. John. The woman between the two men holds Jesus' wrist with one hand and presses the other to her breast. With her uncovered blond hair she is probably St. Mary Magdalene, who often features in images of this type.
